A one-stop location for information on big-leaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla, Meliaceae)

FIELD SITE DATA

When this research began in 1995, our goal was to provide a general description of the southeast Pará landscape & the forest where mahogany occurs. This section describes climatic & physiographic gradients that provide physical context for flora & fauna in this region. Links to basic datasets are provided.

Climate

Annual rainfall & temperature patterns from 1995 at Marajoara and the sawmill community called Marajoara on state highway PA-150.

Geomorphology

Physical description of the underlying geology & geological history of this region.

Hydrology

Annual-seasonal migrations of the belowground water table, or phreatic water, at Marajoara.

Soil

Gradients in soil texture, color, moisture retention, and nutrient availability across topographic gradients at Marajoara.

Disturbance

Patterns of natural forest disturbance opening growing space for seedling regeneration.

Botanica

Inventory data contrasting forest composition and structure at high- and low-ground topographic positions, plus profiles of principal tree species at Marajoara.
