Listed below are a wide range of publications about big-leaf mahogany and closely related Swietenia species, covering topics in tropical forest science, management, and public policy. The emphasis here is on mahogany in natural forests throughout its neotropical range. The principal book-form resource on mahogany is Lamb (1966). The edited book by Lugo, Figueroa Colón & Alayón (2003) presents proceedings from a conference hosted by the USDA Forest Service’s International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since the mid 1990s three scientific journals have dedicated issues to the science and politics of mahogany: the Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society (1996 vol. 122 issue 1), Recursos Naturales y Ambiente (2005 vol. 44 Marzo), and Forest Ecology and Management (2008 vol. 255 issue 2). A sampling of articles published in the Lugo et al. book and in these dedicated journal issues is provided below. Excellent reviews of mahogany ecology, management, and commerce in Belize and Panama are offered in Weaver & Sabido (1997) and Weaver & Bauer (2003), respectively.
